Fruits of Viet Nam: Star Apple (Vú Sữa)

Star apple is a fruit commonly grown in orchards of central and southern parts of Viet Nam, the most famous are located in Can Tho Province in the Mekong Delta. The Vietnamese name is Vu Sua (milk from the breast). No better word can describe the appearance of this fruit than this name. The shape of the star apple and the flesh match the name, due to its juice which is fragrantly sweet and milky white like breast milk. The fruit is round, has smooth peel that is either green or violet. The inside is shaped like a star, which is the reason to call Vu Sua also “Star Apple”.

To eat: there are many ways to enjoy the fruit. The simple way would be to peel the fruit with a sharp knife; this may cause the precious juice inside to be wasted. It is better to cut the fruit into two parts and use spoon to scoop out the pulp carefully. Another way to eat the fruit, applied by orchard owners, is to eat the whole fruit. They first squeeze the tough fruit until it becomes tender so that the juice mixes with the meat and then drill a small hole at the top of the fruit, lift it to their mouths, lean their heads backward, and drink the flow of the fragrant juice.

Vú sữa là một loại trái cây thường được trồng trong vườn cây ăn trái của miền trung và phía nam của Việt Nam, nổi tiếng nhất được đặt tại tỉnh Cần Thơ ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long. Tên Việt Nam là Vũ Sữa (sữa từ vú). Không có từ tốt hơn có thể mô tả sự xuất hiện của loại quả này so với tên này. Hình dạng của quả vú sữa và xác thịt phù hợp với tên, do nước trái cây của nó ngọt và màu trắng sữa như sữa mẹ. Quả là loại quả tròn, có vỏ trơn hoặc là có màu xanh lá cây hoặc màu tím. Bên trong có hình dáng như một ngôi sao, đó là lý do để gọi Vũ Sữa.

Cách ăn: có rất nhiều cách để thưởng thức trái cây. Cách đơn giản là để vỏ trái cây với một con dao sắc, điều này có thể gây ra các nước quý giá bên trong để được lãng phí. Nó là tốt hơn để cắt trái cây thành hai phần và sử dụng muỗng để xúc ra bột giấy cẩn thận. Một cách khác để ăn hoa quả, được áp dụng bởi các chủ vườn, là ăn cả quả. Họ đầu tiên ép trái Vú Sữa cho đến khi mềm ra và sau đó khoan một lỗ nhỏ ở đầu quả, nâng nó để miệng và uống dòng chảy của trái cây thơm ngon, ngọt lịm.
